My grandmother on my dad’s side passed away earlier this week, so I’ve been catching up with blog posts here in the Philippines, appreciating the slower pace of life (and surrendering to my losing battle with jet lag). It’s been almost 20 years since my last visit to my dad’s childhood hometown, and I’m grateful for this time to gather with my family to mourn the loss of Nanay Esmenia. We gather later this morning for her funeral. Please keep our family in prayer today as we say our final goodbyes.
Day 4/100: I have been a huge fan of @rainbowrowell since I first saw one of her books recommended by @evachen212 AGES ago (I’m pretty sure my oldest was still a newborn.) These days, I’ve been listening to the audiobook versions of books I’ve especially loved, and this one narrated by Rebecca Lowman and Maxwell Caufield is 💯. Hearing characters come to life is always my favorite and hearing #Fangirl read out loud made me fall in love with Cath and Levi all over again. The fact that I’m in a different place in my life since I first read it, and the fact that I’m pursuing my writing a lot more earnestly than before, Fangirl has resonated with me that much more. Highly recommend. #litwbookstagram #bookstagram #the100dayproject
Truly, whenever anyone agrees to take part in my latest project, I am always honored/humbled that they would say yes. The time I’ve spent on writing, editing, and posting for this season of #lent has been a gift of grace and prayer — not just for me but for all the writers involved. May you also be blessed and be a blessing to others. The world is a better place when we’re all in it. #leavenintheworld #wanderingsandhomecomings
(3/100) I read I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness by @austinchanning in one sitting. Well, technically it was one lying (laying?) in the middle of a sleepless night and I (perhaps, unwisely) decided to start reading at 1AM and proceeded to read until 4AM. It was that good. As a Filipino-American who shares with the author similar experiences of growing up in a predominantly white middle-class neighborhood, but also had rich experiences of being surrounded in church by other people that looked like her (in my case, other Filipinos and Fil-Ams), she speaks plainly and puts into words many of the conflicting emotions I’ve had as someone who is immersed in ministry and a church that continues to grapple with understanding race, culture and the meaning of unity in diversity. In short, it was another nudge from the Spirit that I am not alone. Highly recommend. #the100dayproject #litwbookstagram #bookstagram
Pink sunsets always make me 😍
(2/100) 2 burgers and a book. Currently reading Inspired by @rachelheldevans — a book that’s helping me hold my love of Scripture together with a general sense of malaise when it comes to being church and Christ’s follower. The book is a beautiful collection of memoir and updated re-telling of stories like Job, lectio divina-like dramatizations of scenes like the Samaritan woman’s encounter with Jesus at the well. So many of the images that the author conjures up in her stories come back to me in moments of quiet — something that has given me something to hold onto when I’m not even aware that I’m feeling disconnected or off balance. If you’re looking for a fresh way to enter into Scripture, this is it. Highly recommend. #the100dayproject #litwbookstagram #bookstagram

ABOUT THE BLOG

With the advent of the Internet, the amount of God/faith-related information out there can be downright overwhelming. The purpose of this blog is to help bring order to the tohuwabohu (i.e., chaos), so you can filter out all the noise and get to the good stuff (“good stuff” = resources that will help you grow in your faith in a healthy and life-giving way). I’m not here to re-invent the wheel, just here to point you in the right direction.
