A few months ago, I was lamenting that even though I like to write, I never felt like I could call myself a Writer with a capital W. But instead of waiting until I had the confidence and credentials that I assumed I needed to be a real Writer, I just started writing down whatever came up in prayer, and writing and making pitches to different blogs that have helped me grow and deepen my faith over the years. I’m excited to say that I’ve been added as a regular contributor to WIT: Women In Theology. Here’s my first post!
Be on the lookout for some of my work to be published at Busted Halo as well as Paulist Press in the next few months. May this be an encouragement to those of you who may be be hesitating or are reluctant about putting yourself out there — sometimes, it’s just a matter of saying YES to whatever God is tugging on your heart to do. Be not afraid.
I almost didn’t write this post.
And while there are a great number of perfectly legitimate reasons (excuses?) why I couldn’t possibly take the time to write, at the end of the day, the real reason would have been fear.
Ironically, it is precisely because I am afraid that I’m sitting in my kitchen at 4 a.m., in the midst of the detritus of yesterday’s playtime and piles of unread mail, staring at a blinking cursor on the 5 year-old laptop that is almost as old as my firstborn.
So today, I write.
You should know from the outset that I write from the perspective of a first generation-born Filipino-American. My parents migrated to the U.S. from the Philippines in the late 1970s and I was born on a naval base in North Carolina.
